Admissions Procedure Hans Raj College

Eligibility Requirements
Admission to B.A. / B.Sc.

Minimum percentage of marks required for admission to B.A./B.Sc. Programme is
40% of the aggregate at any of the examinations recognized by the University of
Delhi.
Admission to B.A. (Hons.)/B.Com.(Hon.)/B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics

Minimum percentage of marks required for admission to B.A. (Hons.), B.Com. (Hons.)
and B.Sc. (Hons) Mathematics is 45% in the aggregate at any of the examinations
recognized by the university of Delhi. However, for admission to B.Sc.(Hons.)
Mathematics, the candidate should have passed in Physics, Chemistry and
Mathematics with 50% marks in Mathematics.

Admission to B.Sc. (Hons.)

Minimum percentage of marks required for admission to B.Sc. (Hons.) is 50% in the
aggregate of Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology for admission to
Botany/Zoology (Hons.) and Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics for admission to
Physics/Chemistry/Electronics (Hons.) in any of the examinations recognized by
the university of Delhi. The candidate should also have passed in all the
subjects included in the aggregate.

Admission to M.Sc. Earth Science 1st Year will be done by the College.

The 5 year integrated M.Sc. Earth Science which was started in the Department of
Geology in the academic session 2011-2012 will be conducted by the Department of
Geology and Hans Raj College from the current session onwards. The subjects
like, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics will be taught in Hans Raj college of
Delhi University.

The duration of the course is 10 semesters spread over five academic sessions.
The students will be required to undergo training in the summer vacations during
the five years of the proramme, either in the Department or at other National/international
Laboratories. The course has a possible exit option after three years (six
semesters) wherein a degree in B.Sc. Earth Science will be provided.
The number of seats for the course is 30.

Earth Science or Geology is a specialized field which has wide ranging
application in various fields some of which are listed below:

  • Fundamental earth science including origin/evolution fo life; evolution of earth
    and other planetary bodies; Paleoclimate and climate related studies including
    cryosphere (frozen water studies).

    Paleo-ocenography and marine geology.

  • Solid earth studies including internal structure of earth and earthquake related
    studies.

  • Mineral Exploration including basemetals, precious metals, diamond, coal,
    radioactive minerals etc. and hydrocarbon geologist.

  • In established mines as mining geologist.

  • Natural resource management including surface and ground water (e.g. river
    management and flood hazard; ground water management).

  • Geotechnical consultancy (Rail/highway and other communication alignments; Dam
    foundation, tunneling including fixing the alignment; major hydropower, thermal
    and nuclear power projects)

  • Waste management including nuclear waste management.

The subject is a field based science and the scope of work is also related to
studies in field. the current deployment and absorption of successful post
graduate candidates in both in Govt. Sector as well as in private sector. Post
Graduation is the normal minimum qualification for a professional geologist’s
job as Geology is not a common school subject and it is initiated only at the
graduation level.

The Department of Geology, University of Delhi, boasts one of the best faculty in
the country presently.
CERTIFICATES REQUIRED
Candidates must provide the originals and self-attested / attested photocopies
of the following documents :

  • Class 10th Board Exam Certificate.
  • Class 10th Mark-sheet.
  • Class 12th Mark-sheet.
  • Class 12th Provisional certificate/Original certificate.
  • Character Certificate (Recent).
  • OBC (non creamy layer) certificate in the name of the candidate.
  • Transfer certificate from School/College as well as Migration certificate from
    Board/University are required from those sutdents who had passed senior
    secondary exam from outside Delhi.
  • Two passport size photographs (unattested).
